I’m sitting at Bar Colluzi once again, thumbing the pages of the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, in loose conjunction with the ‘refreshingly-news-free’ pages of the Daily Telegraph. Head awash with US tour-dates, German contracts for upcoming Trapez releases, and my oddly bruised thighs (the product of several days of slightly askew yogic practice, in a very, very hot room).

Here in Darlinghurst, things feel much like an idealized gay-boy Disneyland, for the most part. Well waxed, well spoken queens and pretty-boys pimp and strut, offset on occasion by well-healed fashionistas, and hollow-eyed junkies, half-alive in shuffling dusty-footed bedlam. I remember working on the “Jesus Cares” food-van here, close to 10 years ago. Where does time go? Memories of sweaty, overweight male prostitutes asking for 6 or 7 sugars in their tiny, styrofoam-bound instant coffees. Sulphur streetlamps, hot, muggy summers, and an intense, gnawing melancholy which stamped itself across my late 20s. It’s good to be back here with a new spirit, though the same dark patches still stain corners of old buildings.

US and Canada performance dates continue to flesh out organically, with some special farewell shows still to play here in Australia, and thereafter a cold Berlin Spring to slide into….hopefully blossoming into something reminiscent of the last 5 glorious mid-year celebrations.
